Have you ever found yourself in a situation when the most unexpected thing has happened to you, and you had no idea how it happened? Moreover people around you, don’t believe the story of this “magical event”? They will tease you, that you had all of this planned ahead, but you didn’t wanted to share it from many reasons like selfishness or the fear of failure. Some of them would even enviously say that you are so “lucky” and how they wish they were as “lucky” as you are.
Do you remember that friend from high school, who always said that he didn’t do well on the test, because he wasn’t studying hard enough, and yet he would get the highest grade in the class?
I can remember, how we hated that “type” of students. We always thought they were saying that they were under prepared just to look cool, or to distract us from the idea that they could whisper an answer or two during the exam.
But have you ever considered IN COMPARISON to what they weren’t feeling prepared for the test? The same goes with the friend that got the most paid job? Before you wish you were at their place, have you ask yourself how much hard work they’ve put to get to that position?
I have always been conflicted by the two types of characters I’ve met over the years.
1. The one who always keeps it cool, seldom shares his ideas and hopes, but he always has the most successful story on the table. Is this why we think that some people have it easier in their lives than we do?
2. The one, who always complains that he can not catch a break. And when something actually happens, he gets hyped up about it , but doesn’t do much about it, and in the end, he usually gets really disappointed.
We all have dreams and wishes, and because of our social nature we like to share them. But raising our hopes too high, could also land us much lower if something doesn’t go the way expected. This is the stage when we usually wonder why some people have it so much better than us?
Though I’ve said that not everyone gets the same chance in life, we must admit that some of us go easier on themselves than others. If you have set the scale of hard work on high, the success is guaranteed. And the answer to your question, how something magically happened? Well, actually it didn’t. You’ve probably put a lot of hard work to get to that point, but you might have not noticed, because of putting your scale of hard work on too high.
Working hard and focusing on your dreams can make wonders for you. Also the happiness, could only be as big, when it’s not shared with someone else. Sometimes it’s really hard to find the middle ground between these two extremes.
So think about this. Make up your own standard for the scale of hard work and dedication. And the next time, you hear about someone else’s success, compare your scale of hard work to theirs, instead of the amount of success they achieved. This is a sure way to figure if luck has anything to with it.
